Pre-Conference Workshops

WEDNESDAY 10/16/2019

Python for ArcGIS
Organizer: PAMAGIC
Presenter: James Whitacre

Programming tools are now a standard feature within GIS software packages and allow GIS users to automate, speed up, and become more precise in their data management and analytic work. This workshop is designed for GIS users who have little to no experience with computer programming and will cover core programming concepts related to GIS using the Python programming language. The workshop will focus on guiding attendees through hands-on exercises designed to provide the essential skills to programmatically manipulate data as part of a GIS workflow.

Getting to Know ArcGIS Pro
Organizer: Clarion University of PA
Presenter: Yasser Ayad

ArcGIS pro has been around for a few years now, nevertheless many of us did not have the time to explore how it works and how we can benefit from its capabilities. This workshop will demonstrate the new ArcGIS Pro interface, discuss its differences and similarities with ArcGIS Desktop in general and ArcMap in specific. A set of sample datasets will be provided and the opportunity to work, hands-on, with ArcGIS Pro will be available. We will be discussing setting up a new project, working with layers and feature layer properties, working with maps and layouts, creating map series, managing the database, and editing features and attributes.
